It bet like I may have play myself again . I wasgenuinely excited about AMD ’s RX 9070 XT , but now , I ’m starting to interest about its hereafter . I always knew that the newfangled AMD flagship would n’t be able to compete against some of Nvidia’sbest graphics cards , but I had a lot of hope that it ’d still be a great competitor for a identification number of other reasons .
I ’m not doubting the public presentation of the RX 9070 XT . I have no grounds to , as we do n’t experience a thing about it — and that ’s exactly why I ’m worried . Not only are the GPUs still a all over mystery , but they ’ve also reportedly been stay . At this charge per unit , I fear that AMD may have lost the war before it even started , and I ’m not alone .
What’s going on with RDNA 4?
I matt-up pretty excited for the RX 9070 XT , but so far , the launch ofRDNA 4has been a harsh example in managing your outlook .
First , the GPUsbarely got a mentionduring AMD ’s 45 - minute - foresighted CES 2025 keynote . Then , the few slides that AMD released to the public press offer very little entropy ; we fundamentally only hear a little bit about the RDNA 4 computer architecture and AMD ’s public presentation goals . The information was vague , too — remember “ improved ray trace carrying out ” and the like .
The GPUs themselves were spotted at CES , but only those made by AMD ’s partners , and they did n’t come with any specifications . So , at this phase , it ’s been revealed that the RX 9070 XT total with three fans in its Gigabyte designing . That ’s … not a lot .
But expect — there ’s hope , or so I thought . AMD tell Digital Trends that RDNA 4 would be discharge “ in a matter of weeks , ” and that the society thought that the newfangled RX 9000 series deserved its own event . But only silence has followed .
The first update came not from AMD itself , but from B&H. The retailer put the RX 9070 XT up for sale witha January 22 preorder date . The cards had been taken down , but then they reappeared with a release day of the month of March 22 . Finally , this cart track .
Radeon 9000 series ironware and software are looking great and we are planning to have a wide assortment of card available globally . Ca n’t wait for gamers to get their hands on the cards when they go on sale in March !
& mdash ; David McAfee ( @McAfeeDavid_AMD)January 20 , 2025
David McAfee , AMD ’s vice chairman and general handler of the Ryzen CPU and Radeon artwork division , revealed on X ( Twitter ) that the bill of fare will go on sales agreement in March . McAfee subsequently added that AMD is restrain onto the GPUs a niggling while longer in rescript tooptimize their software stack , includingFSR 4 .
Meanwhile , various leakers and tout are having a field day with AMD ’s troubled RDNA 4 launching . Recent whispers point toAMD still holding off to see how Nvidia get along . At this rate , AMD will belike get to see the RTX 5070 Ti and the RTX 5070 in their full halo before it launches the RX 9070 XT .
AMD want to foretell its raw computer graphic cards alongside Nvidia , but it clearly did n’t have a solid plan for really releasing them . Now , we ’ve had to cobble together various ideas about the board from leaks , gameboard married person , and societal mass medium postal service , which does n’t inspire a plenty of self-assurance .
I’m losing faith, and I’m not alone
As soon as I consider David McAfee announce that RDNA 4 would n’t be here until March , I eff what was coming — and I was n’t awry . PC play enthusiast , including both AMD and Nvidia fans , were n’t felicitous with the way it ’s all exit down .
Not even , a right announcement with slides of performance , features . Could be even & quot;price will be reveled at , a later date" ; . This is so bad PR … i have no password .
& mdash ; Tomasz Gawroński ( @GawroskiT)January 20 , 2025
sit at over 500 likes , a comment from GawroskiT on X makes a archeological site at AMD ’s PR team . “ Not even a proper announcement . [ … ] This is [ such ] bad PR . I have no words . ”
Another user , PlaysRingle , assure to ditch AMD for Nvidia base on how things are going . “ AMD is going to make me upgrade my RX 7900 XTX to an RTX 5080 . I ca n’t keep defending AMD when it keeps doing these thing . ”
What ARE you guys doing ? What kind of & quot;marketing" ; is this & quot;stealth" ; unwrap ? ? ? Your CES presence was so uninformative you'd have been better off not showing up at all , and all we get since then is THIS ?
& mdash ; DGBurns ( @davidgburns)January 21 , 2025
AMD detain the launching of RDNA4 to March is the right move . The last affair they want is glut up the launch yet again , which they risk doing if they set up before Nvidia .
And very few people would have buy a 9070 XT just because it launched a workweek or two before the 5070 . …
& mdash ; Hardware Unboxed ( @HardwareUnboxed)January 20 , 2025
I live that go is a tough crowd , so I decided to check Reddit for more reactions . Long story dead — it was n’t pretty .
“ I perceive this as having no confidence in your own product . [ AMD ] had the opportunity here to grab this midrange food market segment by come out first , ” say another user , pointing out that wait for Nvidia ’s RTX 5070 might backfire .
In hunt of hoi polloi who are more in favour of AMD than Nvidia , I ventured into the universal gas constant / AMD residential district . This postquickly showed me that people are n’t uncoerced to switch off AMD any slack .
I could go on , but you get the gist . It ’s clear that the great unwashed are n’t proud of , and while the net at large is hardly ever satisfied , some of this might ’ve been forefend if AMD had been more outgoing about the RX 9000 serial . the great unwashed are foil with the holdup , but also with the deficiency of info .
AMD could still make the RX 9070 XT a success
Things are looking a little bleak for RDNA 4 right now , but the cyberspace is quick to forget . It ’s still entirely potential for AMD to reverse this around and make the launch of the RX 9000 series a success .
My opinion is that sharing some information would be honest than sharing next to none ; even a basic specification sheet of paper would go a long way . Although McAfee play a central role in AMD ’s GPU scheme , most fans do n’t check his ecstasy account on a daily basis . Those people are either kept in the darkness or they ’re forget to rely on third parties to tell them what ’s going on .
Unfortunately , correctly now , AMD is really not doing much to scatter that notion . A quick decade post , even when come from an AMD executive , does n’t abbreviate it .
apart from some merchandising efforts to drive up the hype , I think it ’s now more significant than ever for AMD to lean into that performance - per - dollar metric that makes GPUs like Intel’sArc B580such a capital pile . The fact is that the RX 9070 XT might still be an surpassing GPU even if it wo n’t be able-bodied to beat all of its Nvidia competition .
Most people wo n’t be spending $ 2,000 ( or more ) on anRTX 5090 . The GPU market require computer graphic card that provide value while being able to go the latest games , and to that end , AMD ’s ordinarily done a moderately good line . Strangely enough , some of its best GPUs are the ones that did n’t get a lot of love from the marketing department , such as theRX 7900 GRE — but that ’s no reason for the RX 9070 XT to also be launch with so little fanfare .
If AMD gets the pricing right , the RX 9070 XT might still turn out to be an awe-inspiring card . On the other bridge player , if it ’s too expensive when compared to its Nvidia rivals , it might end up being overlooked regardless of AMD ’s marketing effort . And let ’s go for that those efforts actually set about before long , because so far , Nvidia ’s gain the battle — but AMD could still take the air away unscathed from the war .
