ChatGPT sort of thinks the Sonos Ace headphones are speaker . Phil Nickinson / Digital Trends
Let ’s stipulate something : Making fun of AI chatbots is trashy and well-heeled . But it ’s also a petty playfulness . And , honestly , I was a piffling curious which colorSonos Aceheadphones ChatGPT might recommend .
So I asked it .
ChatGPT sort of thinks the Sonos Ace headphones are speakers.Phil Nickinson / Digital Trends
Specifically , I hit upChatGPT 4o . That ’s the version “ that provides GPT-4 - level intelligence , but is much profligate and improve on its capabilities across text , voice , and vision . ” One fashion model is broadly as good ( or defective ) as the next as far as I ’m concerned . I would n’t take any of them as gospel . So consider this an exercise for entertainment purposes as much as anything .
The first question I posed : “ What colour Sonos Ace should I get ? ”
Before I get to the reply , I just require to say that I ’d debate that to be a fairly natural fashion to ask that question , right ? presumptively , ChatGPT would be able to suss out that the Sonos Ace are a thing ( albeit a relatively new product , which may in reality be problematic for the response ) , and that they total in multiple color . And it did both of those things .
But here ’s the problem . Two of them , actually . First is that ChatGPT did n’t understand that the Sonos Aceare headphones . ( Again , they may really be too novel . ) But then it in reality made up a color that does n’t subsist as an alternative for the Sonos Ace .
That first part lead to a pretty funny response . “ The choice of coloration for a Sonos Ace depends on your personal taste and the vogue of your space . ” That space , of course , is my question . And while I ’ll entertain the argument thatI may look betterwith one color headphones over another , I ’d also argue that the style of my place should never matter when it comes to phone . They ’re meant to be hold out , not see . Because they ’re headphones , and notspeakers .
And it receive funnier . Here ’s the response for Sonos Ace headphones in smuggled : “ aerodynamic and advanced , black blends well with most Interior , especially if you have other fatal or dark - colored electronics and piece of furniture . ” Indeed , it does . Black goes with everything . But , again , none of that is really anything I consider when it come to my headphones .
But what about white phone ? “ Clean and minimalist , ” ChatGPT continued , “ white is great for a lighter , airy count and matches well with white-hot or faint - colorful article of furniture and interior decoration . ” I ’d never considered bloodless headphones giving the room an airy aspect . But OK , I ’ll take into account it .
Then ChatGPT offered up a third choice . “ Neutral and versatile , gray can be a respectable middle land if you want something that is n’t too stark but still stylish and modern . ” stool sense . But there ’s just one problem : Sonos does n’t make gray Ace earphone . They do not survive . To be middling , the blank version is actually “ soft white ” and calculate more gray than not . But , still . There are no strictly gray Sonos Ace headphones .
We ’re not done yet . ChatGPT then mused on “ exceptional editions or custom colors . ” evenhandedly enough . “ once in a while , Sonos free special edition or custom people of colour . These can add together a unparalleled touch to your apparatus if you ’re looking for something unlike . ” That ’s true . They can add a unparalleled touch to your apparatus , insofar as my head is a setup . But then there ’s the problem in that Sonos does n’t ( at least to the best of my anamnesis ) do that , either . The Sonos Roam , newRoam 2 , and thePro - Ject turnablesthe company sells are the only product that stray outside the black and white binary .
Again , this was really all done just out of sheer curiosity . I ’m not look to make ChatGPT experience tough or anything . But the idea that it did n’t recognise on its own that the Sonos Ace are earpiece sort of gave the impression that it does n’t actually cognise what they are and was just give me responses it thought would be somewhere in the park , which really just made them generically spoiled . Like a hastily save paper in sixth grade .
I ran my enquiry once more , because I ’m a glutton for punishment . This time I bestow in an extra word , for context of use : “ What colour Sonos Ace headphones should I get ? ”
The responses were better in that they did n’t strike the Sonos Ace refers to a speaker that lives in a elbow room . ChatGPT also bring back its answer in pairs of professional and cons . For the black example :
Again , generic . But not incorrect . The response for the snowy Sonos Ace was basically the same . More prostrate to testify off stains , though . So try not to defile your headphones .
But , again , it also stargaze up a hoary variant of the Sonos Ace , which simply does not exist . Same for special variant or customs colors .
The decimal point of all this ? I just want to see how a newfangled AI model answered a interrogative I ’d already answered myself .
