A Formosan space missionary post has made history by bringing the first lunar sample distribution from the far side of the moon back to Earth . The Chang’e-6 missionlanded on the Sun Myung Moon ’s far sideearlier this calendar month , where it collected a sample distribution that was returned to Earth on Tuesday , June 25 .

The return abridgement touched down in the Siziwang Banner surface area in the N of China ’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region at 2:07 p.m. Beijing Time . The caspule had first entered the atmosphere around half an hour originally , travel at almost 7 miles per second . It then bound off back out of the atmosphere to slow up itself down , before inscribe the aura again and using parachute to slack its declension .

Now , the capsule will be taken to a installation to be processed and take apart for further study .

“ After the lunar samples are rescue to the research lab , we will first unseal the sampling container , extract the sampling , and fork the samples pull together on the lunar control surface from those drilled under the surface , ” Wang Qiong , deputy master intriguer of the Chang’e-6 mission , aver in astatement . “ A portion of the samples will be put in permanently , while another dower will be stored at a different fix as relief in eccentric of tragedy . Then we will prepare the stay portion , and distribute them to scientist in China and foreign countries in accordance with the lunar sample direction rule . ”

This is the first time that a sample from the upstage side of the Sun Myung Moon , which always faces away from Earth , has been collected . Sometimes informally ( but inaccurately ) referred to as the dark side of the moon , it is a particularly challenging area to explore because it demand more communication challenge than operate on the nigh side .

As it is a more challenging location , scientists have less entropy about the geology of this region . It is thought to take issue from the moon ’s nearer side , such as having experiencing few of the lava flows that have passed over the moonlight ’s open , make it a potentially valuable way to learn about the moon ’s story .

As well as get back this sample , the Chang’e-6 mission also included four international load from the European Space Agency ( ESA ) , France , Italy , and Pakistan . The mission also made role of a relay race satellite forebode Queqiao-2 which will remain in domain around the lunar month , collecting scientific data using its instruments , including an utmost ultraviolet tv camera , an array neutral atom imager , and an interferometry experiment .
