HMD
At Mobile World Congress ( MWC ) 2024 , Human Mobile Devices ( HMD ) – the Creator of Nokia - brand mobile phones – announcedplans to make “ low-cost , beautiful , desirable , and repairable ” phones . We also got our first look at the new HMD logotype for phones , but what truly set the hopes high were the teaser images ( like the one shown above ) .
The visual assets released by the brand showcased phone concepts in chickenhearted , gullible , and pink , among other color that brought back the angelic memories of the Lumia - Windows Phone days . The lustrous colors , flatten out bound , and palm tree - friendly rounded sides had me more delirious for these upcoming HMD phones than for some flagship lined up for a 2024 reveal .
HMD
After all , smartphone design really took a back seat in 2023 , at least for orbicular brands hawking their product in Western markets like the U.S. Flat incline that dig into your ribbon , heavy glass - metal body-build , and a ho-hum vividness pallette really took the artistic joyfulness out of buying a raw phone , especially when they cost close to $ 1,000 .
Why, HMD? Just why?
Well , it seems that HMD wo n’t be a Jesus for smartphone shopper yearning for a dash of sweet designing . Today , leaker @OnLeaks ( along withMySmartPriceand91Mobiles ) dropped alleged renders of two upcoming HMD speech sound , and they look nothing like the exciting phones I was hoping for .
The phones are said to attain the shelf comport the name HMD Pulse and HMD Pulse Pro . At first look , it seems HMD convey liberal inspiration from the budget phones deal by the the like of China ’s Realme and Motorola , among other brands . The only element of boldness here is the color options .
The launching - spirit level Pulse passementerie is seen in a lilac gradient refinement , and there ’s also a light blue shade to nibble from . As for the Pulse Pro variant , it ’s only render in drill dark blue or black shade . We ’re not certain if more colors are in the pipeline , but even if there are , they wo n’t be enough to lift the otherwise bland design .
The television camera island is your common orthogonal shape with rounded box and two large band around the lenses . This intention is so generic that without the HMD logo on the rear shell , it would be insufferable to distinguish the phones . The make unnecessary grace is the bezels , which appear uniformly flimsy on all side for the HMD Pulse .
Interestingly , the Pulse Pro is describe with a thick chin alongside the bottom edge . It ’s odd to see HMD giving the pricer variant a more out-of-date looking at . But these are leak renders , mind you , which means the marketplace - ready adaptation could end up see a mo different , for proficient or worse .
Now , it would be unwise to expect a premium intent from a definitely budget - centrical phone . But then , HMD promised us “ affordable , beautiful , desirable ” phones barely a few weeks ago . Also , it ’s deserving having a feeling at the competition and what they are offering in full term of styling at a pocket - well-disposed price .
Check out these budget phones from Xiaomi ( from left ) , Tecno , and Realme :
As far as specifications go , the HMD Pulse will reportedly offer a 6.56 - inch HD+ CRT screen while a 5,000 mAh stamp battery keep the light on . The phone will have a 13 - megapixel camera at the back and will reportedly descend Blue , Black , and Pink shades .
The Pro version , on the other hand , might issue forth with a 6.56 - inch HD+ exhibit with a 90Hz refresh charge per unit and a 5,000mAh barrage fire . Interestingly , the leak cite a 50 - megapixel camera at the front as well as the back . The processor at bottom is claimed to be the Unisoc T606 , while the memory configuration is 6 GB of RAM pair with 128 GB of onboard storage .
The spec are n’t specially impressive , especially for the rumored 179 euro request cost . They are definitely weak against what Xiaomi and Realme have to offer in Asia . It would be interesting to see how HMD aims to stand out with its new brand identity .
But for now , the road ahead seems tough . HMD does n’t really earn the same variety of respect and identification that the Nokia logo did . A meh specification sheet is n’t going to do it any favor , especially in a market where even upstarts like Tecno areracing ahead with brave and bold experiments .
It was a terrific opportunity for HMD to at least revisit the iconic looks of the Lumia sound , which it brazenly twit in its merchandising materials in February . But that seems to be a fading pipe dream , which is disappointing to see and wo n’t do much unspoilt for HMD . All we have pass on for now are adorable render and some nostalgia .
