Most sound nowadays are fit with dual lens or triple lens television camera systems and have powerful picture - editing tools broil natively into the software . This stand for most people have a thickset photo - editing retinue in their pocket every twenty-four hour period .
Aside from making basic adjustment to a pic , one of the most popular edits is to get rid of undesirable object in photos . Think people in the background , folderol on the flooring , a mess on a surface , and whatever else that might distract from your photo . Such an edit can really tidy up a picture and make it calculate proficient in the end .
Right now , there are two main tools for such an edit : Google Magic Eraserand Samsung Object Eraser , depending on which phone you have . While Google ’s Magic Eraser was originally exclusive to Google Pixel phones , like theGoogle Pixel 8 , Google made itavailable to everyone who apply Google Photos . Samsung ’s Object Eraser is available only through its own Gallery app on its equipment .
Eraser tools are definitely one of my favorite ways to pick up my photos , but I was curious as to which one really does the caper well . So rent ’s take a look at how Google Magic Eraser and Samsung Object Eraser do side by side .
The limitations of erasing objects
It ’s a relatively simple edit , but in sure setting , it can beexactlywhat the Doctor of the Church grade . With that out of the way , permit ’s dive in .
Basic object removal
permit ’s first start with this photo of a spicy pinko Subaru at a car show . The original image shows the head of two masses standing behind the railcar who are stop it our , and there is also a lamppost with a lot of signage on it . I opted to slay the hoi polloi and the lamp position with signage entirely .
With Google Magic Eraser , it ’s very obvious that the simulacrum was qualify . There are overlook splotch of the Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree behind the original lamppost , leaving behind solid gray mend . Even a glob of the parking mansion is moved down and incomplete . And where the two the great unwashed were is a blotchy mess , which make it obvious there was something there .
The Samsung Object Eraser did well , but it ’s also not 100 % ideal . It at least filled in the background behind the lamppost and signal with some greenery and beige fencing that blend into the building . It ’s less obvious that there were people behind the railway car because Samsung has that field blend in more by nature with the window of the construction and the top of the car .
Next is a pic of an oversized green Christmas ornament from last vacation time of year . As you could see in the original photo , there is a scuff gull on the ornament , plus a patch of dirt and a judiciary to the side of it , and a car push back by in the screen background . I ’ve choose to situate the scuff , take away the workbench and dirt , and get rid of the car .
For the scuff mark on the decoration , Google treat it better than Samsung . With the Samsung Object Eraser , it is very manifest there is a muzzy Saint Mark on the ornament , which indicates that it was modified in some style . With Google Magic Eraser , it ’s less blurry and more textured like the eternal sleep of the ornament , so it ’s not as obvious .
While the Samsung Object Eraser does make the bound of the ornamentation a little jagged from where the dirt met the border , it handled the removal comfortably . It search more natural on the sidewalk , where you could just think it was some dirt on the land . The Google Magic Eraser once again made it blotchy and digitalize — it ’s very obvious that something was there . Lastly , you could barely tell that the spot where the gondola was egest in the Samsung version , while the Google image is bumble in that area .
It’s time to declutter
When you go to Disneyland , it ’s rarified to ever get a photo without some the great unwashed in the setting , especially at the castle — it ’s just the nature of the beast . This is a photo I had take in with the PhotoPass photographer on Valentine ’s Day . As you’re able to see , there are people in the desktop in front of the castle and our backpack is showing in the bottom - left quoin .
Google Magic Eraser is pretty good at automatically notice removable objects , and it already had the people in the background preselected , whereas I had to do it manually with the Samsung Object Eraser . However , both Google and Samsung struggled a bit with the remotion of multiple background people , as you may see remnants of someone ’s belongings through the railing and either a great blur or jagged patch . I mean Google plow the background a little better than Samsung here , but only very slightly .
On the other hand , Samsung ’s Object Eraser handled the remotion of the backpack better . The colour of the blue pulley under the work bench blends in better , whereas Google Magic Eraser made some awful stain there . The bench does look better with Google though , but again , only so somewhat . In the end , both image here have imperfection since it ’s a more complex edit , so it ’s just a matter of which one you prefer .
Here ’s me show off my Millennium Falcon Zea mays everta bucket in front of the Millennium Falcon at Disneyland ’s Galaxy ’s Edge draw . Like the castle , it ’s hard to get a clean shot in front of the Millennium Falcon , so an object - removing peter can be very helpful here .
The Google Magic Eraser once again mechanically detected the the great unwashed in the scope , so I did n’t have to select them myself . However , it ’s pretty bad with the removal , as you’re able to still see remnant of the person ’s red backpack now just floating in midair . There are also very jagged digitized artifacts where the the great unwashed were .
The Samsung Object Eraser handled this one almost cleanly . It removed the people and the packsack and satisfy in the background seamlessly to mix in with the fencing . apart from missing the yellowish and black paint to indicate the door , it ’s severe to tell it ’s been edited unless you know what to look for ( e.g. , the shadows ) .
This is a photo of my outdoor cat who followed us into the commons across the street . She was looking majestic while sitting in the wood flake , but there was a welter of various junk from the nearby trees since it ’s been windy .
Once again , Google Magic Eraser erased the debris , but it left a noticeably darker , digitalize fleck in the screen background . I also used it on a leaf poking through behind her left ear , and it ’s less obtrusive than the with child blotch , but it mess with her auricle fur a second .
The Samsung Object Eraser do by the image much well , as the smutch - out distance where the debris was blended in well with the wood chips . It also did better with the ear fur once I got rid of the foliage . In fact , if you did n’t know that it was touched - up , you ’d believably think that was just the original mental image .
Lastly , here ’s a photo of some delicious carpaccio from an all - you - can - eat sushi restaurant . As you could see , the table was a little littered with a straw peignoir , part of a potable crank , some paper , and some crumbs from a roll on another home base . There ’s a lot go on here !
I believe that , once again , Samsung Object Eraser plow the edit well . I erased the drinking straw wrap , glass , newspaper , and the crumbs . With Samsung , while there are still traces of what was erase , it ’s very faint due to the instinctive blurring that intermingle in with the wood grain of the board well . away from the moody line and the blurry edge of the plate , it does n’t look too bad . It did n’t clean house up the crumbs as well as I ’d wish , though .
The Google Magic Eraser did n’t do as well , as you may clearly see an out of blank space fuzz and smoothness go on where I erase items . It looks far less instinctive . But it did handle the paper erasure comfortably as the border of the scale looks less blurry , and there are no crumbs left .
success : Samsung
One is definitely better than the other
When Google debuted Magic Eraser with theGoogle Pixel 6lineup , I was quite impressed with it . One of the reasons why I liked getting a Google Pixel speech sound was because of the Magic Eraser lineament . But now it ’s no longer just a Pixel single , and anyone who uses Google Photos can get at it .
If you need prompt and basic object removal edits , Magic Eraser remains a solid peter . But as you’re able to see , at least with this selection of photo , Samsung ’s Object Eraser is good — well so in some instances . Unfortunately , it ’s more limited in term of gimmick that it is available on , as you ’ll need a Samsung twist to access it . But if you have a Samsung earpiece , such as theGalaxy S24 Ultra , then you should be using Samsung ’s Object Eraser over the Google Magic Eraser .
