At a time whenultrawide monitorsare all the rage , I have just doubled down on my determination to puzzle to a double - monitor frame-up alternatively .

It ’s genuine that some of thebest gaming monitorsare ultrawides , but my late leverage in the end made me desexualise the one thing that get to me about run dual monitors — and I could n’t be happier .

Two LG UltraGear monitors sit on a desk.

Imperfect, but perfect for me

I ’ve been using two monitors for the preceding 10 years . Before that , I had been run a single 1080p screen , so the raise to two monitor was pretty thinker - blowing . At the time , both my monitor were by all odds on the budget conclusion of the scale , but hey , I could watch shows and play games at the same time ! What a revelation .

Still , treble - monitor setups have their issues , and even though I swear by mine , I wo n’t tell you that they ’re perfect . The bezels break immersion ; the gaming real estate is nowhere close as impressive ; you have to crane your neck left and right if you ’re working . It can seem like a lot to put up with when you could just corrupt an ultrawide monitor instead .

Despite these little ( or big ) bother , I dissent the enticement anddidn’t upgrade to an ultrawidewhen I finallybuilt a newfangled PC last year . There ’s just too much I savour about my setup to switch it up in a major mode . There are lots of understanding why I prefer two monitors over ultrawide , but I wo n’t get into that here .

My point is that for the past decade , I have been happy with my monitoring equipment frame-up . However , one thing always bothered me , and this year , I finally decided to desex it .

It was time to stop neglecting my second monitor

For many mass , the second monitor in a dual - display setup is an afterthought . I was one of those the great unwashed for years . While I attempted to always have a seemly primary presentation , my second admonisher was often the tatty IPS dialog box that I could get my hands on .

The resultant ? Thick bezel , subpar colors / direct contrast / cleverness , minuscule refresh rates , and overall miserable quality . I used it almost exclusively for work and the occasional Netflix academic session , but the difference was often jarring looking from one CRT screen to the other . Sure , calibratinghelped a bit , but some things ca n’t be helped even with the most punctilious tweaks . As a result , I always had two immensely different monitors .

Did it bug me ? Yes , it did . It bugged me a lot , peculiarly in late years . However , I ’d been planning to supercede my 24 - inch proctor with a 27 - inch . Until then , I decided to make do with my uneven frame-up . At least both the display were of the same sizing — until I finally advance .

Alongside my new personal computer , I also buy a 27 - inch LG UltraGear 27GP850P - B. Arguably one of the unspoilt 1440p monitor within an affordable price range , the monitor turn out to be an upgrade over my sure-enough covert in every way potential .

Once I had a reminder I really liked , my small secondary covert digest out like a raw pollex .

It ’s not an expensive monitor by any stretch , but it does the job . It has a vibrant nano IPS panel , 2 K resolution , and a refresh rate of 165Hz ( or 180Hz overclocked ) . That may not vocalise like much for some , but I do n’t need more than that — I never run esports games or first - person shooters ( FPS ) . I nearly failed the tutorial inPlayerUnknown ’s Battlegrounds , just to give you an idea of my FPS gaming acquisition .

I did n’t expect miracles at that price range , but this is a decent monitor that I ’d recommend to just about anyone in penury of a 2 thousand display . I ’m not a fan of the outdoor stage , and it does n’t perform great in a dark elbow room , but other than that , I ’m completely satisfied .

The problem ? Once I finally had one monitor lizard that I really liked , my remaining 24 - in Acer stood out like a sore thumb . It was n’t just a matter of picture tone ; it was still 1080p and 75Hz , meaning that the LG was leagues above my secondary covert . suffer side by side with a much better monitor , my Acer never bet worse .

I thought I could put up with it , but I ’ve finally budged . turn out that all I require was to observe a monitor I liked well enough to to the full devote to . Since then , I have bought a second LG UltraGear 27GP850P - boron and upgraded my 1440p and 1080p apparatus to two of the precise same monitors , and it ’s candidly like dark and day .

declination ? None . I only bid I ’d done it sooner or else of neglecting to upgrade my 2nd monitor for age .

No longer an afterthought

Thinking about my monitor lizard journeying , I take in that it ’s not just the 2d monitor that is often do by as an afterthought — monitors in general often are . That ’s not a well thing . Even if it ca n’t be done right on away , it ’s important to match your Monitor to what your microcomputer can put out . Otherwise , you ’re at risk of desolate public presentation .

Upgrading to anRTX 4080 in my unexampled build , I knew that I had to get a new monitor lizard properly away . Using a 1080p display with that variety of graphics card is basically throwing money in the ABA transit number . I could have live on for 4 jet , but I feel like a 32 - in ( or even larger ) show is the sweet situation for that , and that ’s too big for me . Again , this is another choice I by choice made to accommodate my twofold proctor apparatus .

Although I now have two monitors of the same model , they ’re not exactly the same ; no two display ever are . However , after adjusting their mount , they ’re as close as they can ever be , and I in conclusion palpate like I ’m name use of my slenderly overkill ( for my needs ) back PC .

Would I commend that others also purchase two of the same admonisher for dual setups ? If you ’d asked me a yr ago , I would have cogitate it unneeded . Now , having tested it myself , I know comfortably . If I was give a tight budget for two Monitor , I would n’t make the mistake of spend 70 % of it on the elementary showing and the rest on a throwaway monitor . I ’d rather have two that were sleazy , but match .

I ’m well mindful that in conclusion giving in to ultrawides would have solved the aforesaid quandary , but at this item , I ’m not sure when , and if , I ’ll be quick to part path with running two admonisher . While there are thing I would have vary in my microcomputer build if I could , such as not waiting for theRTX 4080 Super , I ’m fully quenched with my monitor alternative . I had a budget and I stuck to it ( which is more than can be read about my microcomputer build ) . My UltraGears are more than good enough for my indigence , and sometimes , that ’s the right end to get for .

With that state , if I baffle to my mismatched proctor setup for much longer , those fancy ultrawide monitors would have looked a lot more tempting than they do right now — but for the time being , I consider myself almost fully immune to their charms .
