Last week , I was in Berlin with theGoogle Pixel 9 Pro Foldat the very start of my critical review period , and I wanted to compose something about the camera ahead of it . I decided to do so by indulging in a photographic hobby of mine .

When I go , I like to take photos of car , and the Pixel 9 Pro Fold was going to be my companion . It had better be up to the project , as other phones were wait in the wings if it let me down .

Car-spotting in Berlin

Despite the Pixel 9 Pro Fold throw Pro in its name , it does not have the same camera as thePixel 9 Proor even thePixel 9 . It has a 48 - megapixel primary camera , a 10.5MP full - angle camera , and a 10.8MP telephoto camera for a 5x optical zoom . It ’s essentially the same as theGoogle Pixel Fold’scamera setup , and on a technical level , it ’s not as telling as the far less expensive ( but much less foldy ) Pixel 9 Pro or even thePixel 8 Pro .

But would it do what I want while in Berlin ? I was in the metropolis for theIFA 2024technology trade show , and I quell in close proximity to Kurfürstendamm ( or Ku’damm for poor ) , which is central , refined , and packed with adorable places for chocolate and food . It ’s also full of expensive designer stores , luxury watch brand dress shop , and all the cars follow those who shop there . Over the many years I ’ve bide in this arena , I ’ve always enjoy some insouciant car - spotting , often to the humiliation of my colleagues .

I ’m a motorcar geek , so when I ’m in novel places , I find it really pleasurable to spot cars I do n’t unremarkably see at house . What make Kurfürstendamm enjoyable for me is the variety of cars you see cruise and parked up , ranging from supercars to modern classic in fantastic circumstance .

A good car - pick out camera needs to take colored , eminent - demarcation , active photos in all lighting conditions to spotlight the metal . It really need a telephoto television camera , so you do n’t have to get right up closely to the fomite when taking a photo , keeping things more incognito . It also want a robust redaction retinue and a big filmdom to make fitting . The Pixel 9 Pro Fold should be a swell choice , so how did it do ?

Using the Pixel 9 Pro Fold’s camera

Why did n’t I take photos of car on the move ? I had intended to try out Google ’s Action Pan style , which add together a cool motion fuzz effect to moving objects , as I ’d enjoyed it on the Pixel 9 and Pixel 8 . However , oddly , Action Pan is missing from the Pixel 9 Pro Fold ’s camera app . Action Pan ’s sister mode , Long Exposure , is present though . There ’s no obvious proficient reason why it ’s not included , and in this case , it was rather frustrating . Perhaps it ’ll turn up in a future software system update .

What about the cars ? It ’ll come as no surprise that two lead gondola brands dominate the Ku’damm landscape painting : Mercedes Benz and Porsche . Porsches of all types are so prevalent that I stopped taking photos of 911s , as I ’d have spent most of my sentence charm them if I had n’t done so .

I did n’t do the same with Mercedes as , despite see so many , the models were often highly strange spots for me , as Ku’dammers seem tolovetheir gamey - public presentation Mercs . That say , on one day , the first five auto I consider photographing were all AMG GT models of various type , give you an idea of how prevalent this finical car was in the area .

The cars and photos

I did n’t want to fixate on just supercars either , and I want to illustrate the variety of cars I find , which I think speak to the interesting railcar culture that I assume exists in Berlin and its surroundings . The convertible Mustang was a surprise , and although I did n’t get photograph as most were on the move when I see them , the amount of Aston Martin and Jaguars , both new and old , illustrated that it was n’t solely about German cars either . Ferrari was notable in its absence , and the few I did see were easily outnumber by Lamborghini and Bentley models . It was terrific to see all these railcar out and in utilisation , peculiarly during the calendar week .

The beautiful weather during my arrest no doubtfulness helped mass lend out cars that may have otherwise been safely garage , and it also helped out with my photos , as did the urban backdrop . I try out to incorporate Ku’damm and its side streets into the photo , but there were times when a bittoomuch of it produce in the manner , and this is where the Pixel 9 Pro Fold became the ultimate fellow traveler for my cable car - distinguish adventures on the move . For a start , opening the phone to view and then edit images on the large projection screen is awesome , and it simply ca n’t be matched on a non - folding phone . Only delete on a laptop computer or pad of paper can compare , and I can carry neither in my pocket .

Not a car-spotter?

But I only want to edit the photos because they look excellent to begin with , meaning I could tweak them to my mouthful rather than expend the tools to endeavor to reach an satisfactory baseline . I ’ve managed to create a collection of photos I am really happy with that captures Berlin ’s obvious love of very herculean cars .

When I come up with the mind of using car - spotting as the basis for my chronicle on the Pixel 9 Pro plica while in Berlin , it was with some trepidation . I take these exposure for myself and playfulness , so I did n’t want that to change . If the Pixel 9 Pro Fold was a annoyance or did n’t take the pictures I wanted , it would become an effort and efficaciously becomework , with all the fun of car photography removed .

If you ’ve never taken a picture of a cable car and are marvel if all this is relevant to you , all the same rule and performance of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold ’s photographic camera and Google Photos give to whatever you ’re photographing . I be intimate the open screen when I want to see my photos after adopt them , and the telephoto camera allows me to shoot my chosen subject in more visually exciting way of life from a length . The redaction toolkit helped me easily create photos I wish had been possible in real life .
