In many ways , Unbreakablewas the highlight ofM. Night Shyamalan‘s life history , and it ’s been all downhill from there . Bruce Willis , who had previously worked with Shyamalan onThe Sixth Sense , reunify with the manager forUnbreakablein 2000 . One of the best things aboutUnbreakableare the surprises , so if you do n’t already know the premiss of the film , then we ’re not lead to tell you what that is in this clause .

Shyamalan did eventually get around to build a loosely connected Unbreakable trilogy that stop withGlassin 2019 . But as a big lover of the originalUnbreakable , my personal recommendation is that you ignoreGlassentirely . In retrospect , Unbreakableis better as a standalone story without any of the Byzantine retcons that arrive in that so - call finale . And now , it ’s time to share the ground why you should watchUnbreakableonMax .

Bruce Willis gives a surprisingly vulnerable performance

Samuel L. Jackson walks a fine line between sympathy and madness

As much asUnbreakableis Willis ’ film , it also belongs to Samuel L. Jackson ’s Elijah Price . In fact , Elijah appears in the movie before David does , simply to establish that he was carry with very easily breakable bones . And that ’s something that stalk Elijah for the eternal sleep of his life . In the nowadays , Elijah reaches out to David with a wild theory about why he last the string crash . Like any rational person would , David thinks Elijah is crazy . But the consultation never loses understanding or empathy for Elijah at this point because the film indicate that he ’s been mightily all along .

Where Jackson really shines are the fit where Elijah has given up and he believes that his efforts were all for nothing . Elijah is broken both physically and mentally until gets the sign that he ’s been looking for . Willis and Jackson had antecedently share a good deal of covert prison term inDie Hard with a Vengeance , but they get a raw moral force to play in this movie as David and Elijah slowly become supporter despite some very cryptical reliance issues between them . Yet without that hamper , the rest of the moving-picture show would play very differently .

Shyamalan creates incredible moments of emotion and tension

The reasonableness whyUnbreakableranks among Shyamalan ’s best movies is that the director had n’t entirely give himself over to turn for shock economic value the way he did in his previous movie . There are decidedly some machine inUnbreakable , specially once the interview finally realizes what sort of story they ’ve been watching all along . That lead to some of the film ’s most exciting moments as David follows Elijah ’s advice and opens himself up to a new human beings .

disregardless , those big twist would n’t have been as efficient if Shyamalan had n’t also launch the emotional stakes of the story for David and his kinfolk . The two stories intersect with each other in satisfying way . That ’s why the real ending of the picture show is n’t the slightly precipitous epilog , it ’s the last time we see David and his family tuck together .

James Newton Howard’s score is a masterpiece

Casual film lover do n’t always give enough credit to the composer for their melodic contributions . ButUnbreakablewould not be complete without the fantastic score by James Newton Howard . The way that Howard ’s music connects to the things happening on screen is also a testament to Shyamalan ’s work on the picture . However , Howard ’s notes go a tenacious way toward bringing thing to a crescendo , especially late in the cinema when David gain what he ’s supposed to be doing .

The clip above is entitledThe Orange Man , and it ’s from one of the motion-picture show ’s climatic sequences . It ’s too big of a spoiler to describe what ’s happening in the scene , but the music takes us on a journey as David finally lives up to the hope he ’s had his entire life .
