Even though it was first teased as far back as 2020,Mass Effect 5is still just in pre - product as of the start of 2025 . The bulk of the BioWare team was fully sharpen onDragon Agefor the last several years , and only now that the game is done can the focal point be shifted toMass force 5 . However , due toDragon Agenot meeting expected value , BioWare has undergone faculty reshuffling within EA as well as many people leaving . Bloomberg reportsthat the squad has fewer than 100 people currently on the squad .
Currently , general manager Gary McKay state thatMass Effect 5is in such an early stage of ontogeny that it does n’t require the intact studio ’s accompaniment , hence many of the faculty being allocated to different teams at EA . project director Michael Gamble commented on this with a post on tenner state that “ as the notes have said , we are still in pre yield . ”
We can only go for thatMass Effect 5doesn’t have as put out a ontogenesis asThe Veilguard , but even if everything goes smoothly , we should still anticipate to wait another 3 or 4 years or so before the biz is ready .

Many believe this is Liara , though it is hard to be whole certain , but would be a very interesting way to tie in this new game with the former serial without Commander Shepard . Asari lifespans are upwards of 1,000 long time in the Mass Effect universe , so it is more than reasonable for Liara to return , either as a protagonist or companion . The prevue ends with the cryptic message that “ Mass Effect Will Continue . ”
On N7 Clarence Shepard Day Jr. in 2023 , BioWare hand us another 30 second of prerendered footage to analyze . This teaser presented a character wearing an N7 jacket and pitch-dark helmet haze over their face . Their frame seems to be distaff , though it is hard to assure for certain . They pull out a shooting iron and passing the metal hallway onto an unknown planet . Even more so than the first tantalization , this footage only lift more questions than give answer .
Gameplay
This is go to be pure speculation since the trailer we have was entirely prerendered and nothing regarding gameplay has been shown or talked about yet . However , based on all four of the old biz in the series , we can be fairly confident in assumingMass Effect 5will continue to mix RPG ingredient with third - soul , cover - based shooting . The serial always has fit that definition but has become more refined and expanded in each secret plan . Mass Effect 2was the sweet spot for most fans , with taut gunplay but still a estimable deal of RPG element to custom-make the experience with . Based on how BioWare games have progressed up to and beyondAndromeda , we can expect at least the armed combat to be a highlight , which just leaves how much of an RPG the plot will be in question .
