I have , from metre to sentence , been recognize to spend a picayune too much money on toy . ( That ’s pronounced “ technical school . ” ) I ’m a firm worshiper in spending as much as you may in some luck . Ca n’t elevate the storage or RAM on your phone or laptop afterward ? Max it out now . That sort of thing .
But I can not , in upright sense of right and wrong , get anywhere close to convincing myself that I ’d ever be able to excuse spending $ 600 on a consumer - grade router .

That ’s the very straightaway conclusion I got after spend a couple of minutes poring over the very stylishEero Max 7atAmazon ’s autumn devices eventat HQ2 in Arlington , Virginia . Full reviews of this thing will come from someone else at another time . But as someone who has had an Eero Pro 6 mesh topology setup at home — and recommended Eero to his parent and in other military volunteer efforts — I can safely say that it ’s a keen organization for someone who knows the rudiments of networking and wants just enough control condition over the meshwork , or for someone who generally has no idea how the illusion happens and just wants things to sour .
We ’ll go forth the discussion about Amazon owning Eero and thus have some insight into lord knows how many home mesh for another clip .
It ’s beenalmost three years since I go down up my Eero meshing . We ’ve now seen a couple of new , quicker , best reading of the Eero system come out , and I ’ve had zero reasonableness to upgrade . Gigabit fiber is more than tight enough for 95 % of what I do on a daily basis when I ’m wired in over Ethernet . The same goes for wireless , even if it ’s at one - third the same kind of hurrying ( it varies by twist , of course ) .
Websites do n’t actually load 10 times quicker . Doorbell cameras do n’t load any quicker . Unless you ’re babble unfeigned throughput of file transfers , I ’m never going to get anywhere close to maxing out that speed . And even with the dozens of equipment ( and counting ! ) that have access to my home base web , I ’ll almost certainly never get close to maxing out all the available address , or having too many gimmick pull too much information at one time . There ’s only so much a fellowship of four can pull out down — even if two of them are glued to TikTok most of the evening .
That ’s not to say the Eero Max 7 wo n’t be great . I ’m sure it will . It ’ll look capital standing out in your support way somewhere . Or wherever . How and where folk set up their home plate internet is entrancing . aerodynamic press image still do n’t take into account Ethernet coming and going — that ’s always going to clunk up the aesthetics . But , still , the Max 7 attend big .
But what could I do with an Eero Max 7 that I ca n’t do with an Eero Pro 6 ? Or , rather , the three Erro Pro 6 units found in my house , that are now selling for under $ 250 . That many Eero Max 7s would be $ 1,700 . That ’s not a literal error . My mesh wo n’t be seven times faster . It wo n’t be seven times more rich . Chances are I wo n’t find my internet seven times more time to come - proofed .
That ’s the sort of money professionals might spend on a business - class internet . It ’s perfectly not anything I ’d spend for house . Not by a long slam .
But , damn , it still looks nice .
