The Samsung Galaxy A35 ( left ) and Galaxy A55Andy Boxall / Digital Trends
I ’ve been using theSamsung Galaxy A55for almost two weeks and have now swapped my SIM card over to theSamsung Galaxy A35 . These are the latest entries in Samsung ’s budget - disposed Galaxy - A series . In all honestly , I can barely tell thedifference between them .
While this go like it ’s a unfit affair , in this case , it may not be so bad for you , the vendee . Confused ? Do n’t be . allow me explain .
Plastic vs. metal
Externally , the Galaxy A35 and Galaxy A55 look essentially the same . They have the same filmdom size , dimension , and photographic camera faculty design . Both my review good example are also in the same color — Awesome Navy — helping to disguise the fact that they are two different phones . Samsung has used the fresh , raised section around the intensity and powerfulness keys to give the shape some fictitious character on both phones .
You have to wait quite hard to blot the difference and be “ in the know . ” The Galaxy A55 has a alloy chassis finish with a brushed event that has a slight , but very welcome grain . The Galaxy A35 has a plastic chassis and no textured finish at all , but it does have a subtle alloy smell to give it some class .
The back of the Galaxy A35 is glass , but not thesame shabu . It is n’t Gorilla Glass like the Galaxy A55 , but I gainsay you to actually tell one from the other when you hold the two devices . Sure , you may see the difference should both sound take a spill — in hypothesis , the Galaxy A55 should be more long-lasting — but just by looking at them , the Galaxy A35 and Galaxy A55 both appear to be the same glass - covered phone .
One of the phones feels better to hold
I ’m in the process of go over the Galaxy A35 , so I ca n’t comment on any performance differences between them yet , as there are insidious internal changes that may pretend how the Galaxy A35 compares to the Galaxy A55 when used daily . However , the Galaxy A55 needs to be substantially dependable , as the Galaxy A35 has two enceinte advantage over it that come directly from the materials used for each one . As we ’ve established , they look much the same even with somewhat close examination , so when the sleazy mannikin demand an early lead , it should make every buy huntsman devote attention .
My enceinte problem with the Galaxy A55 business concern the sharp bound and how uncomfortable the headphone can be to hold for extended period of time . The glass and metal sports meeting without any curve or chase border to damp it , and you immediately discover it when you pick the phone up . Obviously , it ’s not function to slice your hand undefended — it ’s just not an ergonomically pleasing experience . At 213 grams , the Galaxy A55 is not heavy , but it is grievous than theGalaxy A54 , and extra weight is not welcome turn over the sharpness of the body .
The Galaxy A35 avoids all this despite looking like exactly the same phone . The glass meets the fictile frame without the harsh knifelike edge , and it ’s much more comfortable to break up up and apply . No , it does n’t feelquiteas good as holding a metallic element flesh , but I ’ll take the tiny difference when I can pay to have it in my hand for longer than 10 minutes . The pliant frame shaves 4 grams off the weight , too , make the Galaxy A35 209 Gram . It ’s still heavier than the old 199 - g Galaxy A34 , though .
Much of a spec compromise?
The Galaxy A35 is more comfortable to have than the Galaxy A55 , and that is go away to make it a more pleasurable earphone to own . But what about those spec differences ? There is n’t all that much between them , with the major changes come down to the processor , RAM , and spacious - slant camera . The 8 - megapixel wide - slant on the Galaxy A35 willinevitably be short quality , but it ’s not like the 12MP all-embracing - slant camera on the Galaxy A55 is very good . Plus , the difference between 6 GB and 8 GB of RAM may not be staggeringly impactful all that often , either .
I ’ll add up back to the C.P.U. in my full review , but the Galaxy A35 ’s Exynos 1380 chip was good enough for the Galaxy A54 , so it should be enough here . I do n’t need any time test the Galaxy A35 to infer the last difference that ’s remarkable , though : It cost less than the Galaxy A55 , and as I ’m already discovering , ante up the extra cost mostly result in owning a phone with a sharp , stabby frame to hold up .
However , if you endure in the U.S. , the price divergence is moot as Samsung has decide to only unblock the Galaxy A35 and not the Galaxy A55 . Before try out the two phones , this seemed to be a bad thing , yet just a few hours into using the Galaxy A35 , I ’ve already changed my intellect . The Galaxy A35 is on its way of life to being the honest leverage out of the two , and being able to recommend it over the Galaxy A55 will make me very glad indeed .
Look out for our Samsung Galaxy A35 review very soon , when we ’ll be able to finalize whether it ’s the new A - serial to buy . In the meantime , ourSamsung Galaxy A55 reviewis available if you want a close look at that model .
