We ’ve spent the last few calendar month utter exhaustively about Modern art cards , and unfortunately , a lot of it has been negative . Nvidia ’s RTX 50 series launching has been calamitous , with melting cable , black projection screen driver crashes , missing ROPs , andpricing and availability issues which are just ridiculous . The Trump tariffs are only ca-ca thing worse , too .
But novel , more affordable card game are coming ! The RTX 5060 Ti launched recently and sold out almost directly like just about every other posting this year . Even the 8 GB version . And that gives me some concern , because Nvidia is croak to launch its even - more affordable RTX 5060 in the make out month and it ’ll get with just 8 GB of VRAM . We might see a 16 GB rendering at some point , but 8 GB is probable to be the main version : and you really , really should n’t corrupt it .
Why 8GB just isn’t enough
For many graphics add-in generations the sheer quantity of television store on your graphics placard did n’t make ahugedifference . It was one of the divisor that affected overall performance , but there was n’t much in the way of a desolate lower limit you needed unless you were going for high - terminal gaming with all the visuals change state up .
But in 2025 , there are very real trouble with not enough VRAM . And we ’re not talking about ancient 2 GB or even newer 4 GB cards , either .
Nvidia late launch theRTX 5060 Ti and it came in both 16 gigabit and 8GBversions , with no other real difference between them besides the gauzy amount of memory . They both boast the same Blackwell GPU with 4608 CUDA effect and a boost clock speed around 2.6 GHz .
I’d argue that even the RTX 5080’s 16GB is too small in 2025. Especially for a $1,000+ card.Jacob Roach / Digital Trends
But you recognise what was a huge dispute ? The genuine world carrying out . Not in every game , take care you . Some early reviews of the 8 GB version showed it run games at very comparable frame per 2d to the 16 GB version , propel some to hold out the concerns that the 8 GB version would underperform . Such motion were previous .
In the weeks that come the 8 GB version has proved to be a far spoilt performer , in some case only spitting out inning per minute that were a fraction of what the 16 GB version could wangle . No wonder Nvidia did n’t require to send out inspection sample distribution of these cards .
The proof is in the (poor) performance
Overclocking.comtested a range of games and found the 8 GB card to be seriously unimpressive , and even incapable in some game . InSpiderman 2at 4 K with high timber DLSS , the 8 GB model only deal 13 FPS , while the 16 GB variation could strike 51 FPS on norm . The frame times on the 8 GB interpretation were awful , too .
At 1080p , the 16 GB rendering manage 84 FPS , while the 8 GB edition fell lamentably behind at just 59 FPS.Indiana Jones and the Great Circlejust crashed and would n’t run on the 8 GB variant , andWarhammer 40,000 : Space Marine 2displayed fearsome texture burden issuance .
Techspot ’s reviewof the 8 GB bill of fare found similar disparities between the two models , with some case of the 16 GB translation performing just a few percent well , but others over 80 % .
The RTX 5060 Ti 16GB is a great little card for SFF builds, but its 8GB counterpart is very underwhelming.Kunal Khullar / Digital Trends
Although the difference was far less pronounced at 1080p , where you might argue the 5060 Ti 8 GB is targeted , upscaling and frame generation do it potential to play games at 1440p and even 4 K with these batting order . But not without equal VRAM .
They’re all too expensive anyway
The RTX 50 series cards were pretty overpriced at MSRP , but with their inflated price since then and ongoing tariff turbulency driving up prices , fresh Nvidia nontextual matter cards ( and AMDs RX 9000 , to a lesser extent ) , are bonkers and really hard to justify .
But that just leaves gamers trying to buy whatever they can to get a newfangled visiting card . Which mean the 8 GB 5060 Ti GPUs sell out fast , with gamers none the wiser about its underwhelming capabilities . That will be even more true with the RTX 5060 if it launch with just one memory configuration . Gamers will be paying high-sounding toll for a wag that does n’t do what it can , because it does n’t have enough storage . In some cases , it might not be able-bodied to play sure games at all . Nvidia is n’t clear that even remotely clear .
No graphic plug-in priced over $ 300 should have less than 12 GB of VRAM in 2025 . That pass for AMD too . If it drops an 8 GB version of the 9060 XT , do n’t bribe that either .
The RX 9070 XT is the best card launched this year, but its price is just as mad as Nvidia’s.Yeston
Nvidia and AMD need to see parentage of these cards sit on the shelves to make a pointedness .
